  Giffin Micros   "the featherweights"

A Micro and a Standard 6-string           The idea behind the Micro was to produce a very lightweight, compact guitar that performed like a full-sized instrument.  I started with a 24 3/4," 24 fret neck and designed the smallest practical body & head around it. The result was a highly playable, killer sounding guitar that weighed no more than 5-6 lbs.  (This design also spawned the Steinberger 'M' series guitars.)
The picture to the left shows a Micro (blue) and a Standard next to each other for comparison purposes.  As you can see, the body size on the Micro is quite a bit smaller than the Standard, and despite having a 24 fret neck, the whole guitar still ends up three inches shorter than the 22 fret Standard...!

Micro,Quilted Maple Sunburst

This is a very pretty example of a Micro.    It's cream bound throughout with cream covered Gibson P90s.  With Nickel hardware and a traditional Cherry Sunburst, this guitar has a very classy timeless look.

The bridge is a Wilkinson and the tuners are Gotoh minis.  Great playing, great sounding guitar!!!

Micro, Peacock Blue

This was a slightly different color for the Micros, but I'd rather like it.  The curly Maple looks really good through the blue. Just for a change, I used an ABM bridge on this guitar with Kent Armstrong P90 pickups.  It has a dark South American Rosewood fingerboard with line inlays instead of the normal "teardrops."  The fingerboard is bound but the body has a clear Maple edge to it.  As with all the Micros, this one tipped the scales at around 6 lbs.

Micro, Sunburst Flametop

Here is a recent Micro with a very pretty piece of flamed Maple.  The traditional sunburst finish with cream binding around the whole guitar gives it a timeless classic look.   This one has Lindy Fralin pickups which sound particularly sweet on this guitar.  It has a Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard and matching head veneer.   It has a Wilkinson bridge and Gotoh 510 series tuners in Nickel.

Micro, Koa Top

There can be no doubt that Koa gives a guitar a very special appearance.  I had this odd piece of Koa lying around that was too small for a Standard. Here is the result..!   just the right thing for a Micro, and the Tobacco burst sets it off really well.
I used a Wilkinson bridge, and Gotoh tuners and Kent Armstrong P90s.

   Sounds great!, looks great!

Micro, Flame Top, Lemon Drop Sunburst

This guitar is cream bound throughout, and the very dark Rosewood fingerboard is a nice contrast to the color of the body.  As with all Micros, it weighs in at less than 6 lbs.,but the sound that comes out of it is anything but light-weight thanks to the Alnico Magnet P90 pickups.  It does have the classic sound that comes from a Mahogany body with a Maple top, but the pickup positioning gives it a distinctly unique quality - it screams and it wispers..... and, it's really comfortable to play! (...it will blow the wheels off your Hummer!...)

Micro - Tobacco burst

Here is a new Micro with a 'wild-wood' top. I used Honduras Mahogany for the body and Mahogany with Maple laminates for the neck.  It has a Rosewood fingerboard with tear drop inlays.  The tuners and the bridge are by Gotoh, and the pickups are Kent Armstrong design P90s.  Despite it's diminutive size, it sounds like a monster!
